These dresses are from an ad in a 1959 Mademoiselle magazine. The ad reads "Let's make in short...all night long" in regards to the short (knee-length) dresses. The dresses were made of silk, silk organza, or rayon, in sizes 5-15 for Juniors, in colors white, pink or blue, and costs originally $25 to $45.
I love the details on these bodices and the cinched waist, something to consider when designing your own. Although, a cinched waist wouldn't work on me these days but tucked darts and empire waist, oh yes!
Do you have a favorite?

Well, in 1959 I would have been six, and at that time, I think that I would have picked the lovely ruffled number on the left of the Dansant Frocks page. Now, I'm thinking either of the three-quartered sleeve dresses would be more to my liking. But Barbara's lovely rose-printed dress is a knock out! These are great ads, Victoria!
ReplyDeleteHa Ha! I was seven, but I would have loved to play dress up in these dresses, I was a real girly girl. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! Im a collector of late forties to early fifties clothing and dresses like those aren't so cheap to come across. Oh to go back in time and only pay 25 dollars for a new 50s dress! The ads are gorgeous and I'd definitely go the top two dresses, which are lovely!
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day and thanks for the inspiration
