I love these vintage swimsuits, they are sexy and made the body look very curvy. This swimsuit spread is from Vogue magazine January 1955, two of the swimsuits ads are for Tylon zipper and Cole's of California.
The second Coles swimsuit is the same as one of the ones above advertising the Talon zipper.
I like this pink one because it has little white fringe along the bottom and top.
Do you have a favorite and would you wear one today?
Swim through summer in two beautiful suits ....made twice as terrific with the Talon zipper!
Sharkskin-smooth Lastex with crisply contrasting pique piping and bowknots. Dazzling white, pink, blue or lime. Sizes 32-40 $14.95 |
Sleek and glossy Lastex with cut-out top hung with make believe pearls. Black, white, red, blue or cherry red. Sizes 32-40 $15.95 |
Two lovely suits from Cole's of California, not sure why they are holding the guys under water.

Yes, and YES!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love vintage suits and I do own a beautiful suit that is pretty old. It's black lace and nude underneath with a matching lace jacket. I used to wear that in college with a pair of Docs and nothing else. I did look pretty hot if you ask me :) Last year I scored a pink and white polka dot one piece at old navy that totally rocked this old time cut. I love it!
ReplyDeleteCouture Allure just ran a post about the above blue swimsuit with more information on the designer. I love her posts, usually with some wonderful vintage fashion.

I love the one with the convertible halter strap, what a neat idea!
ReplyDeleteOh me too! I like how it wraps around back and gives the suit a binding under the breast. I wonder what it looks like in back.
DeleteI LOVE vintage swimsuits, all of these are gorgeous. I love how they're all so figure-flattering. After trying some on in real-life, they can be scary. They're so solid, it's scary to take them in the water!
ReplyDeleteHaHa, I know what you mean about taking them in the water. Wonder if you'll ever dry off. Someone was looking for these older styles in the newer swimsuit fabrics, I think I have seen some retro ones somewhere, maybe pinterest. I have some vintage swimsuit pattern and am going to make one in the modern fabric. I am going to try and eliminate the zipper because the fabric has so much stretch. I'll post it here sometime in the far off distance.
Deletehonestly, i love all of these, but i'm not sure i could get away with wearing them! i know that sounds so silly, doesn't it? i should just wear what i like, but sometimes, even though i like certain things it doesn't really fit in with the rest of my style, or the area that i'm in, or... i'm not sure how to explain?
ReplyDeletei do love the red one with the one strap, and that last pink one with the ruffle you posted. so adorable. which one is your favorite?
xo
My favorite is the second blue one by Cole. I would really prefer the first blue one by Cole, but I think I would take the button off, I think that would look the best on me.
DeleteI have nominated you for the Sunshine Blogger Award!!!

Thanks so much Stacy! Love all the sewing your getting done, don't know how you do it, with kids and cat all thrown in the mix, awesome!
DeleteOh my word, what swoon-worthily sublime mid-50s suits! Love every last, beautifully stylish one.

Aren't they though! Love your style and your blog, great photos and reading!
DeleteSo pretty! I love the ones that look like really short dresses. It's interesting that none of the models are wearing swim caps though... I thought those were really popular in the past.
ReplyDeleteI love those ones too.I guess no swim caps for the fashion shoot, but definitely had to wear them in the pool. Pools have better filters nowadays so we don't have to wear them thank goodness.
